HLA – Human Leukocyte Antigen system is the human leukocyte antigen system, which plays an important role in the immune system. This is the primary cause of transplant rejection. Determining the HLA genotype, finding a donor with HLA similarity to the recipient is a mandatory and important factor determining the success of the transplant. However, HLA is one of the most complex and diverse antigenic systems in humans, so the determination of HLA genotype is very complicated, depending on the technique of application and analysis and interpretation of the results.
Nowadays, besides HLA testing by PCR technique, some units have equipped with new generation gene sequencing system NGS to perform HLA test with high resolution, with many outstanding advantages, supporting better for finding HLA-matched people, especially in non-blood transplant cases.
